Pita bread is a traditional yeast-leavened flatbread widely enjoyed across Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines. It’s made with simple ingredients like wheat flour, water, yeast, salt, and sometimes olive oil. Known for its soft, slightly chewy texture, pita naturally puffs up during high-heat baking, forming a signature pocket, perfect for stuffing with favorites like gyros, falafel, or fresh fillings.

Pita bread is a soft, leavened flatbread made from simple ingredients like wheat flour, water, yeast, salt, and olive oil. A small amount of sugar is sometimes added to help activate the yeast, and some recipes include yogurt for an extra soft texture. The dough is kneaded, left to rise, then rolled thin and baked at high heat, creating its signature airy pocket.

Pita bread is a wholesome, low-fat choice, especially when made with whole wheat, which adds fiber and essential nutrients. It’s typically lower in sodium than many other breads, making it a great option for balanced meals. However, since it can be higher in carbohydrates and calories depending on portion size and flour type, enjoying it in moderation is recommended.

Pita bread typically ranges from about 70 to 170 calories per serving, depending on its size and whether it’s white or whole wheat. A standard 6-inch pita (around 40–60g) usually contains approximately 90–165 calories, 1–2g of fat, and 15–30g of carbohydrates. Smaller or lighter versions, such as 5-inch pitas, can have as few as 35–70 calories

A typical medium-sized (6-inch) pita bread contains around 25–30g of carbohydrates if made with white flour, while whole wheat pita usually has slightly more—about 30–32g—along with added fiber for better nutritional value.

No, traditional pita bread is not gluten-free. It’s typically made with wheat flour, which contains gluten. While there are gluten-free pita alternatives made with flours like rice or almond, standard pita bread is not suitable for a gluten-free diet.

To warm pita bread without drying it out, add a bit of moisture and use quick heating methods. Wrap the pita in a damp paper towel and microwave for 10–15 seconds for soft, warm results. You can also heat it in a covered skillet with a few drops of water to create steam, warm it in foil in the oven, or briefly place it over a gas flame for a lightly toasted finish.

Yes, pita bread freezes very well. To keep it fresh, place the pitas in an airtight bag or wrap them tightly to prevent freezer burn. When you’re ready to use them, simply thaw at room temperature or warm them directly in the oven, skillet, or microwave for soft, fresh-tasting pita.

Good food, good service, what more could you ask for? The chicken kabob was flavorful and they were very generous with the toppings. Paid about $15 for the pita wrap and it was huge, I couldn't finish it all but sure wanted to.

The food was good! I liked their Falafel on Pita bread! The bread was good and their vegetables were fresh. I liked their sauces and the price was reasonable. The menu may be a little confusing but you can figure it out if you ask them to explain. The fries was OK, but not as good! A good Middle Eastern fast food!
